American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2 update v1.47 contains real truck technology

SCS Software has released another major update for its titles American Truck Simulator (ATS) and Euro Truck Simulator 2 (ETS2), bringing a number of improvements to each of the popular trucking sims.

While there are individual gameplay improvements – like improved ambient sounds in ATS and ownable cattle trailers in ETS2 – both titles also offer common upgrades; including real driving assistants like adaptive cruise control and emergency braking system.

Check out our full review of American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2 update v1.47 below.

Updates for American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2 v1.47

Custom City Intros (Utah and Idaho)

SCS Software has stepped up the implementation of custom city intros for both titles. For ATS, this means attractive game launch videos for cities in Utah and Idaho, while ETS2 gets new intros for Stuttgart and Geneva as part of the Germany and Switzerland overhaul.

ETS2’s Road to the Black Sea DLC also gets custom city intros functionality, with featured cities such as Bucharest and Istanbul.

Ownable gas tanks

Similar to ownable chemical, milk and fuel trailers, v1.47 will include ownable gas tanks for ATS and ETS2. These are used to transport highly flammable gases such as methane, propane and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

The new trailer type includes the following options:

  • Paintable/chromed boxes
  • Paintable/Chrome rocker covers
  • Customizable side lights
  • Paintable wing
  • A wide range of hoses
  • A variety of rear fender and rear bumper lights
  • A variety of trailer liveries

Own cattle trailers

Livestock trailers, already available in ATS, have made their way into ETS2, allowing players to transport pigs and cattle across Europe. The new trailer type includes the following options:

  • Left/right/front/rear body
  • markings
  • Side fenders/boxes
  • rear fender
  • Rear bumper
  • Mudflaps rear

Adaptive cruise control and emergency braking system

These real world automotive security systems are coming to ATS and ETS2 after first appearing as hidden experimental features in their v1.44 build. They are now making a full (and official) return.

The adaptive cruise control system allows players to set a fixed safe distance from the vehicle in front on the road, allowing their truck to automatically accelerate or slow down to keep up with traffic. It should be a great relief for those who want to relax and unwind on long journeys.

The emergency braking system, on the other hand, intervenes automatically when your truck detects an imminent collision. Not that ATS or ETS2 players would find themselves in such a situation.

Random road bumps

Yes, surprisingly random road bumps are now a new facet of ATS and ETS2. The feature — known as “Rough Surface Simulation” — is designed to improve the imperfect driving experience on real roads, which can develop random bumps and potholes over time.

The bumps are procedurally generated, so their position isn’t fixed every time you play the games. SCS has also shown that the feature can be expanded in future updates.

Career History UI redesign

The career history feature of ATS and ETS2 has been redesigned with an updated user interface. The new menu is now divided into four categories: Deliveries, Exploration, Driver Experience and Penalties.

The Career History UI tracks shipments, including statistics on missed shipments, cargo types, and map exploration. Penalties are also recorded, but only for the last two weeks of transport.

Germany rework

In ETS2, the German cities of Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Nuremberg, and Erfurt will receive special attention, as they will be completely rebuilt from the ground up to take advantage of the game’s historical graphic improvements.
