Disney Speedstorm: Tips and tricks for beginners to experts

So you’ve decided which of the Disney Speedstorm Founder’s Editions you want to buy, and now you’re ready to jump onto the grid alongside Goofy, Mulan, and Mr. Michael Mouse. And boom! Everyone has rushed ahead and something is happening everywhere.

It’s all too much. what should you do Relax, we are here for you. Here’s everything we’ve learned to help you advance and inflict animated pain on your rivals both online and offline, and take home tons of loot.

How do I get a turbo start?

There’s the now-mandatory boost start, and it uses a green bar system like the one in (of all things) Smurfs Kart.

Some characters’ motors spin faster than others, but the idea is to have the needle in the greenest part of the gauge when the countdown hits “Go”.

The best way to do this is to hold the acceleration until you are in the green zone, then quickly apply the throttle (which is digital, not analog, so just on/off) and the needle straight on lowest point of the green zone when the lights are about to toggle.

Then accelerate a split second before that. This should put you in the optimal range and on the gas for the start of the race. Boom – turbo start!

Manual Boost

The tutorial tells you about manual boosting, but it’s easy to forget when you focus on the millions of things happening on screen and the different buttons you have to press to do it.

But at the top of the screen is a boost bar that fills up as you drift and collect power-ups. Depending on the class, some characters’ gauges fill up faster than others. You can’t use your boost until it’s full, but it will flash to indicate it’s ready.

Try timing your manual boost for a moment between boost pads on the track as the boost doesn’t seem to stack. So use it to recover from a hit with a weapon or to get over terrain that would normally slow you down. There are shortcuts that can be found by cleverly using the boost. So look for areas on the inside of corners and boost across them.

Finally, while boosting with Manual Boost, hitting a boost pad will refill your dwindling boost meter a bit, so keep hitting it and see how long you can sustain your boost.

loading skills

Your weapons are called abilities, but they have two different activation levels.

  • Tap the fire button (Y on an Xbox Pad and Triangle on PlayStation) and you’ll get the base level, which is usually less powerful, but goes further and fires faster.
  • Alternatively, hold the button down until it is triggered.

This can turn “straight ahead” projectiles into heat seekers, albeit with a more limited range. It also makes characters’ specials more powerful but for a shorter amount of time, like Jack Sparrow’s Spinning Cutlass attack, which is much broader when charged but lasts for a shorter amount of time.

How to shoot behind

Just like in Mario Kart, projectile weapons can be fired both behind and in front. To do this, simply pull back on the left stick while firing it.

You can use the right stick to look backwards like you do, although the icons at the bottom of the screen show how close behind you a rival is (by their size – bigger is closer) and where they are in relation next to you is kart. So take her right in the middle and let go of her.

Survive the mirror attack

A particularly nasty attack flips the screen and with it your steering. It only lasts a few seconds, but is often enough to crash you into a wall in your confusion. If it happens, don’t panic.

It’s best to stay as straight as possible, because then you can’t go wrong. When you need to turn (and people often fire them on corners to get the most benefit), just push and hold the steering in the opposite direction you want to go.

The attack only lasts for a short time, so all you have to do is take a serious turn. Don’t forget that shifting back will also change your controls, requiring you to readjust twice and go back to normal steering. With a little practice you’ll get it.

jumping/air tricks

The jump button is both more powerful and useful for avoiding obstacles than in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Mapped to X/Square, it’s very useful for jumping over the Kraken’s tentacles on the Pirate Bay track and jumping to higher levels on Mulan’s course, for example.

However, only use it if you have to as it will actually slow you down if used in isolation. However, it’s beneficial to click “jump” when exiting a trick ramp, as it will perform an aerial trick that rewards you with a boost when you land.

Assigned to the left trigger, drifting is the only way to go around corners, as it fills your boost bar, makes you spin harder, and turns your wheels blue after a second, giving you a free boost when you release the left trigger .

However, it starts to slow down your kart as the drift continues. So use it for the turn or to fill the last bit of your boost meter and then use the boost to restore your speed.

The weapon set varies from character to character based on their class, so feel free to experiment with each character to see what works for you.

Disney Speedstorm fires weapons

Some are a bit confusing at first, like the green dome covering your racer. This actually makes you almost completely invisible, and the attack ends with an area of effect explosion around your kart. So you should use the green time to get close to your rivals before obliterating them on decloak. Super satisfying.

The lightning power-up simply fills up your boost bar, although it can give you a double boost.

grinding rails

These blue rails sometimes require a jump to get on, but low ones can be navigated quite easily. Once powered on, you need to press left and right to balance your kart.

If you get it wrong it will flash red so do the opposite. Get it right long enough and you’ll get a boost throughout the rest of the rail, which is very useful, especially in multiplayer.

Progression tips and how to unlock characters

Make sure you complete the entire Starter Circuit tour as quickly as possible, as this will unlock most of the other modes including online multiplayer. Also, you can try different characters so you know which ones you want to unlock.

Disney Speedstorm progression

To unlock characters you need shards, which can be found in reward boxes in the Starter Circuit tour and also by opening loot boxes in the shop screen or by performing well in multiplayer, completing Golden Pass objectives and even collecting others things can be won. as the collection level increases, they also come with their own loot. Get enough shards for your chosen racer and they’re yours to keep.

Star Level Guide

You’ll then need even more Character Shards to increase your Star Level, and it’s really worth doing as the buffs on all your attacks are quite noticeable, last longer, and have a greater range.

Honestly, the various cosmetic mods affect actual gameplay so little that it’s probably best to spend your tokens if you’re dying for something, as most of the loot is pretty much junk. Decide what you want and which character you want to play, then go after their shards.

General Tips

There should never be a moment when you are doing nothing. Even on a straight without boost pads, you can quickly drift to refill your manual boost. When firing weapons, try to do so on a straight before cornering for the best chance of hitting someone.

Watch where AI racers and even better online opponents ride as some shortcuts aren’t always immediately obvious and some paths at forked roads are faster than others. So when people suddenly appear in front of you, they know something you don’t know.

Disney Speedstorm race goals

If you’re doing a rare time trial, Mike Wazowski is the only way because he can jump through doors and save a lot of seconds. Always check what the three objectives are in starter and season tracks and try to complete them because you only have to repeat the race if you want to achieve them all and haven’t searched. If you are looking for multiplayer coins, go for Regulated Multiplayer as it pays far more than ranked games.

And finally, if you’re good but get left behind and pick up the pocket watch item, it will catch up with you in an instant. But if you’re good enough to get back in the race without using it, nobody can steal it from you, so you can save it until the end of the last lap and blast ahead.

And that’s it! This should get you straight to the podium and winning in no time. Look out for our full Disney Speedstorm review soon.
