Gran Turismo 7’s TOYOTA GAZOO Racing GT Cup competition returns for 2023

After an initial introduction within GT Sport, the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Cup is the Japanese automaker’s championship open to anyone who owns Gran Turismo 7 on PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5.

There are seven online qualifiers that will be held in-game before a grand live final in November as part of the Gran Turismo World Series World Finals.

Results from the seven qualifying rounds will be aggregated via a combination of rankings and region, with the final line-up of 24 riders being sent to the World Finals venue to compete for the overall title.

In 2021, Tomoaki Yamanaka clinched the first title during an online final, and in 2022 three-time Gran Turismo Champion and real-life SUPER GT driver Igor Fraga took home the crown at the in-person event in Monaco.

The competition used to run in 2019 and 2020 under the name GR Supra GT Cup, but was then expanded to include more than one Toyota model.

That continues this season, with the Sprinter Trueno / Corolla Levin (AE86), GR Yaris, GR010 Hypercar, GR86, GR Supra Race Car ’19, 86 Gr.4 and GR Supra Racing Concept ’18 all part of the Line ups are. The platform-sharing Subaru BRZ is also included in street and race variants, and in one round the MAZDA RX-VISION GT3 CONCEPT joins.

Free GR010 Hybrid Hypercar

All participants will receive an in-game gift of a Toyota GR010 Hybrid Hypercar worth 3,000,000 in-game credits.

This will feature a unique livery commemorating five years of Toyota-based Gran Turismo racing competitions.

Does the schedule show new content?

If you look at the 2021 TOYOTA GAZOO Racing GT Cup schedule announcement, it contained the very first reference of the then-new Toyota GR86 sportscar, which then arrived at GT Sport in time for Round 7.

The same pattern happened with last year’s announcement, with a “TBD” track for Round 7. However, it simply turned out to be the existing GR Yaris at Sardegna Windmills.

This time both the car and track combination are again ‘TBD’ for lap seven. While this could potentially hint at new Gran Turismo 7 content arriving before August 27th, 2023, this is far from confirmed.
