Racing now has multiplayer – BoxThisLap

The changes in the racing closed beta are sure to move quickly as today a multiplayer mode has been added so we can experience what has been offered so far on the track. Four cars and four tracks are available in 30-minute sessions, used to debug and tweak everything possible to get a mature and competitive product. There’s a new method for development updates and communication known as Under The Hood!

Hello racers,

Before we start, I would like to introduce myself: My name is Kim and I work in the communications department of RENNSPORT. Being an avid gamer and sim racer from a young age, I am very excited about what we are building here; Expect to hear more from me in the future.

Now that the closed beta is up and the game is in the hands of more than eight people, we thought it was time to release regular updates on the game’s development here on the site.

Welcome to UNDER THE HOOD!

We consider this a monthly deep dive into what’s happening in the RACING world. Now let’s get to the juicy parts.

To read the latest patch notes, first click here.

Second, have you checked out our closed beta trailer yet? Here it is. Enjoy.

Today we will talk about the following:

  • RACING rating
  • security rating
  • split system
  • race calendar
  • The RACING Summit 2023
  • 8ETA

The first update of the RACING closed beta is here, introducing multiplayer and our leaderboard system. During the closed beta phase we can test our systems in the wild and welcome your feedback. The multiplayer sessions now available give us the opportunity to monitor our systems and try them out for you. Let’s all have fun together

As part of this fun, all the miles you’ve accumulated for the car you chose when you first registered will be saved to your account, both in beta and beyond. You can also access any wraps you’ve collected to stand out through stream drops or other activities.

RACING Rating (RR)

Let’s start with the RACING rating. This is our ranking system for players. Everyone in the closed beta starts at RR 1500 and increases or decreases based on your race results. Higher rating = a better racer. At least that’s the goal, but remember that it’s still a closed beta and some systems are still subject to change.

The rating is based on the Elo system used in chess and is intended to bring players of similar skills together in a race. It is based solely on race results. Winning against higher rated players gives you more points than if you win against lower rated players. As a rule of thumb, if you finish in the top half of the leaderboard, you can expect to get a rating. However, there are some borderline cases where this is not the case. In general, the better you do, the more review points you get.

If the race cannot be completed due to a technical problem on the server side, the ratings will not be updated. However, if a client disconnects during a race, the rating will still be updated based on the final leaderboard.

At a later stage during the beta there will be unranked races that will not affect the RR.

Security Rating (SR)

The second rating we have in the game is the security rating. It indicates a player’s racing ability, increasing or decreasing depending on how confident a driver’s racing style is. Everyone starts at SR 1.00. Getting penalties and being involved in incidents decreases the score, while a clean run increases it.

We test these systems during beta to ensure they work as intended, and we may reset the stats at any time. The ratings will also reset when the beta ends and RACING transitions to the full version.

SR and RR are only updated when at least three cars are in a race.

race calendar

When the multiplayer mode is added, you will have direct access to the race calendar where you will find the multiplayer competitions set up by our team. Different races take place every day at a fixed time interval. Each week there are a number of new track and vehicle combinations to choose from. Let’s take a look at what everything means on this screen:

The calendar is at the top left. Click on any day to see which races are available. On the bottom left you can use the cars and rules to filter out the desired race. In the middle field you can see the upcoming races in chronological order, how many people have already registered, which format (P=training, Q=qualifying, R=race) and which route it is. In the field on the right you will find a summary of the selected race.

If you want to be notified when a race starts when you train the last leg in Spa (like I have to do every day) you can turn on the notification by clicking the notify button at the bottom right corner but forgot Don’t forget to register as well, which you can do 30 minutes before the start of the race.

You can also see races in the RENNSPORT app and be notified directly in the app before the race starts.

There are other things the app can be used for such as checking in your car collection, liveries and upcoming ESL R1 streams. To download use the links:

In the first week, races will take place on the four tracks Monza, Spa, Hockenheim and Nürburgring with the following GT3 vehicles: Audi, Mercedes, Porsche and BMW. A new race takes place every 30 minutes. In order to be able to take part in a race, you must register in the race calendar. There will be some differences in these races, such as qualification rules and race length. We’d love to hear your feedback on which combinations you liked the most and what you’d like to see in the coming weeks.

split system

After the registration period for the competition has ended, the grid will be split into splits based on each rider’s RR. For each split, the driver with the highest rating is given vehicle number 1; the second highest gets the number 2. Soon we will also allow you to create your competitions in the game with the parameters and cars you want, but more on that in the coming weeks.

All in all, this is a beta; We’re still testing and want you to try us. Join the multiplayer sessions with an open mind and have fun with other eager races. Don’t forget to give us your feedback on the official RENNSPORT discord.

summit report

Oh boy. The RENNSPORT Summit 2023 was amazing! We officially showed the closed beta trailer, we had CEO Morris on stage talking about RACING (have you seen the bits about modding yet?), and we had a spectacular conclusion to the spring season of ESL R1 with Marcell Csincsik from R8G to top it off the very first ESL R1 champion. It was great to see that so many community members came to Munich to participate and that all the conversations were online. We’ve also given some of the sim racing content creators out there a chance to try the latest version of the game, resulting in some great content and reactions; Here are some for you to enjoy:

More than 8 closed beta keys

We’ll be sending out more and more Closed Beta keys throughout the week, and while we’re not yet revealing how many keys are currently in circulation, we’re counting on up to 60,000 (!) registrations, so bear with us while we increase our capacity. If you are not yet on the waiting list, register here. We know the memes. We know that we are now forever associated with the number 8 (which also happens to be our company logo). We sent out more than 8 closed beta keys, we promise. The official RENNSPORT Discord had a lot of fun and so did we.
Here are some of our favorite memes…

Because of this, we have something special ahead of us… Let me be the first to show you. 8ETA.

A trail. That’s an 8. Like the 8 beta keys? 8ETA? Pretty wild, right? When and if you can play this we will be posting more news in the future.

That concludes the first UNDER THE HOOD and I hope you enjoyed it and answered some of your questions about what to expect in the next beta update. Next time, we’ll talk about the upcoming steps of the beta and dig a little deeper into modding. If you still need more, join our Discord channel, be greeted by our amazing moderators and join the conversations with the best memers in the world. I’m looking at you, wolf without a key …

Finally, please note that if you are on the lower end of our recommended hardware range, multiplayer performance may be different than single player performance. If this is the case for you, adjust your settings in the in-game menu for a smoother gaming experience.

So there it is, multiplayer is now live and we hope you enjoy it. And I repeat myself: this is a beta version. Expect some parts not to work as intended and be vocal about your feedback on our discord!

Until next time driver, see you online.
