rFactor 2 is looking for online multiplayer alpha testers

According to a blog post, the developers are looking for “alpha” testers to provide feedback on an “all new competition system” that has reportedly been in development for “a few months”.

Dating back to a public beta in 2020, the existing competition system allowed for a playlist-like setup with a curated number of events taking place at set times and dates. The splits were determined based on qualifying times, but not based on a leaderboard or “safety” rating such as is the case with third-party services such as Low Fuel Motorsport.

At the beginning of 2023, the 24 Hours of Le Mans Virtual, which used rFactor 2, suffered from platform instability. This led to a statement from Studio 397, in which they committed to “rewriting this code in the coming months to provide a better experience for all players.”

There are few details about the “new online experience” at the moment, apart from the fact that a small group of players are said to be already testing the system privately and public access is marked as “coming soon”.

This follows the announcement of the Gen3 Formula E car, where the news ended with the following sentiment:

“…we have many more content and multiplayer updates to share soon!” However, we can’t tell you all the secrets just yet…”

Alpha registration is currently open, but places are limited. So there is no guarantee that you will be selected at this point.
