Team Redline wins both classes in Le Mans Virtual Series qualifying in Bahrain

Team Redline will have first place on the grid after Le Mans Virtual Series qualifying for the 8 Hours of Bahrain in both the LMP and GTE classes.

Qualifying for the opening round of the 2022-23 Le Mans Virtual Series ended on Friday afternoon. With the fastest laps in both the GTE and LMP fields, Team Redline has the best chance of winning the Bahrain 8 Hours on Saturday in both classes.

Both Jeffrey Rietveld in the No. 1 Team Redline LMP entry and Kevin Siggy in the No. 71 BMW Team Redline BMW M8 GTE return as the defending Le Mans Virtual Series champions. Both secured first places for their respective drives in the cars for Friday’s qualifying session to begin their title defenses.

In the LMP ranks, Jernej Simončič was able to take his No. 4 Floyd Vanwall-Burst LMP to the outside pole position out of 24 qualifiers in the class. In the GTE class, Dayne Warren will start alongside the front row after placing his No. 77 Proton Coanda Esports Porsche 911 RSR GTE in second of 16 places.

LMP: RIETVELD SECURES DOUBLE POLE FOR TEAM REDLINE

Each class of cars had 20 minutes to set their fastest laps and each three-driver team designated a single driver to take control and place him as high up in the qualifying order as possible.

The GTE class went first but the LMP cars, the faster of the two classes, will start at the front of the field. After the BMW Team Redline driver clinched pole position, the Team Redline number 1 was able to do the same 20 minutes later with a stunning lap of the Bahrain International Circuit by Rietveld.

The other Team Redline LMP was qualified by the recent Porsche TAG Heuer Supercup Champion on the iRacing platform, Diogo Pinto. Pinto was able to secure a fourth place start behind his teammates, the No. 4 Floyd Vanwall-Burst driven by Simončič, and the No. 8 R8G Esports entry, qualified by Marcell Csincsik.

Moritz Löhner took his No. 11 Project 1 by Dörr Esports Porsche to the final step of the qualifying podium with a late lap in the session, overtaking the R8G Esports GTE entrant, the No. 888 Ferrari 488, who had qualified by Team professional driver Alexander Smolyar.

The other manufacturer in the GTE ranks, the Aston Martin Vantage, didn’t have quite the same pace as the other three. Their highest qualified team will be Prodrive FYRA Esport #95, qualified by Lasse Sørensen on Friday.
