The BTCC Cupra Le贸n rolls alongside the 2023 liveries on the road to rFactor 2 | traction

Announced today (May 22, 2023), rFactor 2 continues its British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) content offensive as the Cupra Le贸n joins the simulation’s series. The new car also comes along with the liveries for the entire 2023 grid as a free update.

The Cupra is the last car of the 2021-23 season to appear in rFactor 2, three months after the release of the penultimate BTCC protagonist – the FK8 Honda Civic Type R.

The Spanish company is no stranger to the BTCC, having clinched the manufacturers’ title under the guise of Cupra’s parent brand Seat in 2006, narrowly missing out on the drivers’ crown.

The car uses the series’ TOCA/M-Sport specification two-litre turbocharged engine and should therefore feature similar rFactor-2 sounds to the Toyota Corolla GR Sport, Infiniti Q50 and Vauxhall Astra (although the 2023 Toyotas have a special developed Toyota engine). ).

Ironically, Cupra aims to sell exclusively electric cars by 2030, but the Le贸n advertised in the BTCC is currently available in showrooms in petrol or hybrid petrol configurations. And thanks to a shared chassis platform with the Volkswagen Golf, it’s a highly regarded road car.

However, this did not result in BTCC success on the circuit as the car managed a single podium finish in 2021/22 in the hands of Bobby Thompson (who also won the Jack Sears Trophy that year).

Cupra’s BTCC results

The Cupra Le贸n was introduced to the Championship in 2021 by Tony Gilham’s team HARD. Racing outfit that designed and built the racing car version for drivers Jack Mitchell, Jack Goff, Glynn Geddie, and 脕r贸n Taylor-Smith, whose liveries appear in the game.

Likewise, 2022 liveries for the cars of Tom Oliphant, Carl Boardley, Will Powell and Taylor-Smith will appear alongside the 2021-23 liveries of Nicolas Hamilton (brother of seven-time Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton), who drove the Cupra for three consecutive seasons.

2023 has already proved to be a better season for the Cupras, with Thompson securing the car’s best-ever result: second place at Brands Hatch. Hamilton also secured a career-best sixth place finish at wet Donington Park, cheered on by his brother at the side of the track.

Six Cupra drivers are represented in the 2023 starting field; with Dexter Patterson, Bobby Thompson, Jack Butel, Dan Lloyd, Nicolas Hamilton and Jade Edwards all at the wheel of the Spanish car. Their updated wraps now appear in-game as well.

The Cupra Le贸n is available now from the rFactor 2 storefront, priced at 鈧4.99/拢4.33.
