The Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo gets a facelift in the Assetto Corsa Competizione v1.9 update

Although today’s (April 19, 2023) Assetto Corsa Competizione headlines only revolve around the 2023 GT World Challenge DLC pack and v1.9 suspension and tire model updates, Kunos Simulazioni quietly has a revised version of the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo revealed.

Codenamed “Evo 1.5” by Aris Vasilakos – Head of Vehicle & Handling R&D at Kunos – the Mercedes-AMG has received a plethora of new upgrades, including handling and aerodynamics that improve its handling and speed.

The question is why was the car changed to Assetto Corsa Competizione? Well, quite simply, the real-world version of the car has also undergone numerous changes and improvements for the 2023 season, so Kunos has followed suit.

The changes for 2023 are all the more surprising considering the Stuttgart marque dominates the SRO Motorsport Group GT3 series, powering winners in the British GT Championship, Intercontinental GT Challenge Trophy and GT World Challenge Europe Endurance and Overall Cups . Quite a long list, but apparently Mercedes-AMG isn’t resting on its laurels.

The developments are aimed at making the Mercedes-AMG easier to drive for hobby drivers, because as is so often the case in GT3 Pro-Am races, it is the pace of the hobby drivers that decides and not the professionals of the same rank.

And as with most Pro-Am cars, the amateur driver buys the car and funds the team that runs it, making the constant evolution of Mercedes-AMG’s products a valuable piece of customer service.

On track, the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo is an immediate car with a confident feel that offers plenty of confidence under braking with a comfortably neutral balance mid-corner, allowing you to push on the out-lap straight away.

Assetto Corsa Competizione, v1.9 update, GT World Challenge 2023 DLC, Valencia, Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo 1.5

After testing the new 2023 GT World Challenge DLC cars (Ferrari 296 GT3, Porsche 911 GT3 R (992) and Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo2) at Valencia, I was able to get up to speed with the standard aggressive setup straight away. indicating the car’s increased agility over its previous incarnation.

It’s sure to be a hit in the ACC League racing community.

Are you happy to see Kunos making subtle changes to the cars in ACC? Do you think adding the new 2023 version of the Mercedes-AMG GT3 to ACC paves the way for the inclusion of the McLaren 720S GT3 Evo at a later date? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
