Your guide to Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races, coming May 15th: Copen Mechanic

In this week’s Gran Turismo 7 Daily Races, we’ll get the chance to drive Tier 3 and Tier 4 cars and enjoy the luxury of testing a Japanese kei car icon.

Race A will feature the small two-door Daihatsu Copen coupe, while Races B and C are open to Class 4 and Class 3 cars, respectively, and will take in Road Atlanta and the Red Bull Ring.

You can find GT7’s daily races in the game’s sport mode, and they feature online ranked races that put you into events based on your past performances.

RACE A

The Daihatsu Copen was first launched in 2002 and fitted with a tiny 659cc engine to comply with Japan’s kei car regulations (cars with smaller dimensions and minimum displacement get tax breaks in Japan).

With a tiny output of around 62hp, the Copen is by no means a fast car, but weighing in at just 830kg the Copen offers enough safe entertainment to melt any supercar fanatic’s heart.

The East End layout of the Autodrome Lago Maggiore is the venue for Race A and features numerous tight corners for the Copen to drive into. The key to a good lap time is to keep the Daihatsu’s momentum going from corner to corner. And let’s be honest: With just 81 Nm of torque, the little coupé won’t be able to get out of trouble.

Race B

We’re going to Race B at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta and this time we’re using Class 4 cars. This is a simple event where you don’t have to worry about fuel or tire wear – just blast through the mix of elevation changes and high-speed corners of the Georgian venue.

Our recommended car is the fictional touring car Nissan Silvia spec-R Aero (S15). Based on the Nissan Silvia Spec-R Aero (S15) road car, the touring car variant comes with a choice of 12 colors and all the pared-down, performance-enhancing features you’d expect from a full-blown racer.

If you’ve already bought the Silvia Touring Car and done extensive tuning work, keep in mind that due to the NISMO V6 engine swap, it’s no longer eligible for racing in Sport mode.

Race C

We go to Austria’s Red Bull Ring for Race C and it’s a classic Gr.3 showdown.

With 2x fuel economy and a 10x tire wear multiplier, pit stop strategy is crucial – especially as both medium and soft racing tire compounds must be used at least once during the race. Luckily there aren’t too many fast corners at the Red Bull Ring, so tire management should be easier than at other circuits.

Our car of choice is the semi-fictional Toyota GR Supra Racing Concept Gr.3. Toyota has produced a GT4 version of its Supra for real racing and has conducted a number of GT3 tests, so it might only be a matter of time before we see the real thing in the GT7.

Remember to take advantage of the Red Bull Ring’s generous run-off zone and push the shoulders to their limits: this not only improves tire wear, but also helps maintain momentum on the track’s three long straights.
