Overtaking other cars during a race can be a difficult task, especially in Gran Turismo 7. Just because you have a speed advantage over the vehicle in front does not mean that you have a clear opportunity to overtake. Also, attempting to overtake on a corner can be dangerous and result in a collision or lose valuable time.
For this reason, knowing when and where to overtake is important to have consistency in your races in Gran Turismo 7.
Factors to consider when assessing whether a corner is a good place to overtake
- Behind it is a long straight.
- It has a difficult braking zone.
- The cornering angle is very closed.
- The corner exit is wide enough.
- If I manage to overtake, I’ll have a good starting position for the next section of the track.
- It is easy for the opponent to take the right line.
The more these points are fulfilled, the better the curve is for overtaking. That doesn’t mean they all have to be met or that overtaking is impossible if they aren’t, it just takes a big lead to do that. If a corner meets very few of these points, it probably explains why high-performance corners are often good places to overtake and high-speed chicanes are usually not.

Remember that overtaking is always a waste of time, so wasting a good overtaking opportunity can be detrimental to you. It’s also important to remember that sometimes the ideal racing line is practically the only line that can be taken. Therefore, it is your responsibility not to leave space when attempting to overtake in a tight, high-speed corner, rather than your opponent’s.
Applying these rules and considerations will help you overtake more effectively in Gran Turismo 7 and any other car race.
